Clark was never technically an Austin artist — he moved to California and then Nashville — but his songs are frequently associated with the scene there. He was born in west Texas, and many of his best songs center around his days growing up there. After years playing live around the state, Clark's excellent debut album, Old No. 1, was finally released by RCA in 1975. He's since become a successful songwriter deeply respected by his peers.
